Science Grade 9  (SCIR1F)

Science 10G is a prerequisite for all GRADE 10 science courses.  It is a general course with equal time allotted to the five disciplines, plus one optional topic.  Ongoing classroom participation and completion of class and homework assignments are critical for success.  The five disciplines are Earth Science, Physics, Chemistry, Life, Ecology and the optional topic being Astronomy.  The final mark is based on daily assignments and experiments, quizzes and tests.  Homework is also incorporated into the student mark.  Regular attendance is crucial for success.

Science Grade 10  (SCIR2F)

This course introduces students to four areas of the GRADE 10 Science curriculum including physics, weather dynamics, ecology and chemistry.  This course gives the students an idea about what area of science they want to specialize in the grade 11.

Current Topics Science Grade 11, 12 (CTSR3S)

This course gives the student an opportunity to uncover many science concepts from many science disciplines and make coherent connections between them.  Rather than emphasizing the principles and foundations of a particular discipline for further study this course addresses current issues, innovations in a way that is engaging for all students.  Possible topics include Forensic science, Climate change, Sport science, Sustainable development.  Assessment is through laboratory work, projects, presentations, and tests.

Biology Grade 11  (BIOR3S)

There is no pre-requisite for this course and students not registered for bio or physics 305 are encouraged to enrol.  The students will be exposed to practical applications of science and technology as in forensics and medicine.  The flexibility of topics in Sciences 305 allows for interdisciplinary approach based on current scientific issues.

Biology Grade 12  (BIOR4S)

Biology 30S is a pre-requisite.  Biology 40S builds on many of the concepts studied in Biology 30S, but covers a much broader range of topics. The course includes molecular biology, genetics and the taxonomic relationships between the various life forms on our planet.

Chemistry Grade 11  (CHER3S)

This course introduces the students to qualitative as well as quantitative analysis of the chemical reactions.  Students are also expected to conduct experiments to test and examine the individual concepts in the chemistry 30S curriculum as outlined in the course description.  This course is a pre-requisite for the chemistry 40S course.

Chemistry Grade 12  (CHER4S)

This course introduces students to some analytical skills in chemistry.  The course itself mainly deals with the mathematics and application of chemical reactions in macro and micro scale.  This course is a pre-requisite for the general chemistry course at the university.

Physics Grade 11 (PHYR3S)

This is a rigorous course recommended for students interested in a solid science background.  Topics included are Introduction to physics, Mechanics, Fields and Waves.  Students will acquire an understanding of the important ideas and frameworks of the field through inquiry, discussion and experiment.  Science 20F and Pre-calculus Mathematics 20S are pre-requisites for this course.  Assessment is through laboratory work, projects, assignments and tests.

Physics Grade 12  (PHYR4S)

This course is a natural follow-up to Physics 30S.  Topics included are Mechanics, Fields, Electricity and Medical Physics.  The course presents the relevant knowledge and rigorous mathematical treatment of the concepts along with an emphasis on development of critical thinking skills.  Assessment is through laboratory work, projects, assignments and tests.
